Important News About Twobile
by admin on Jun.28, 2010, under Twobile
As mentioned in a previous developer’s blog post, I will no longer be updating Twobile. I recently made the announcement that due to changes in the method of authentication that Twitter will be only allowing from June 30th, 2010 onward (which is called OAuth and is by far much more secure), and the fact that the I have no time in my personal and professional schedules to maintain and prepare it for the switch, I have been forced to abandon the project. However, after posting the initial announcement, I was met with previously hidden support from users of Twobile who did not want to see the project die for a number of reasons. With this, I began to reconsider, but have decided to do something else entirely: I wish to pass on the responsibility of maintaining and upgrading the code to another individual, and will likely open-source the project for all to use (within limits, of course).
This transition process will be a bit difficult, and because this announcement is so close to the deadline imposed by Twitter, it is likely that a new update for Twobile will not be around for a little while. That being said, I would like to extend the offer to anyone who is experienced in C# (.NET 2.5 or above) and is willing to take on the responsibility of ensuring that updates are made, features added, and improving the overall quality of Twobile. If you are interested and are serious about undertaking this project, please send a note to twobilemaintainer <AT> infinitumsoftware.com with a brief explanation of your qualifications and links to any previous applications you may have had experience in writing. Please understand that this is strictly on a volunteer basis, and the fuzzy feeling that you get knowing that you made a quality application that many people happily use is the only reward I can offer!
Twobile v1.8.0 Final Now Available
by admin on Mar.24, 2010, under Twobile
I would first like to apologize for the incredibly long time it took for me to release this new version. Time has become a huge commodity for me and has thus prevented the long-overdue release of the final version of the Twobile 1.x series. This version introduces Twitter Lists support – a little-used feature of Twitter that has huge potential. Other features, such as SMS failover and more URL shortening support has also been introduced, as well as many bug fixes.

Thank you for your continued support and I hope that Twobile 2.0 will find itself available sooner than this version!
Quick notice
by admin on Nov.10, 2009, under Twobile
Some users are reporting that they are unable to install Twobile 1.x on their device. Unfortunately, not a lot of information is given other than models, but here is a checklist of things that you can try to help install it:
- Ensure that you device is a touchscreen-based Windows Mobile device – this should be evident as it requires either a stylus or your finger to operate the device directly on the screen. At the moment, only touchscreen-based devices can run Twobile. I hope to have a non-touchscreen-compatible version when the Twobile 2.x series is released.
- Ensure that you are using a device with version 5.0 or above of Windows Mobile. You can find out your device’s operating system version by going to Start > Settings > System tab > About . The first line should tell you which version you are running.
- Ensure that you have the .NET Compact Framework version 2.0 SP1 or later installed. Most newer devices running Windows Mobile 6.1 or above will have this (actually many have .NET Compact Framework 3.5), but if you do not, please visit Microsoft’s download site to get it. If you can’t tell if you have it or not, you can go to Start > Settings > System tab and if you have an icon for “Managed Programs,” then you already have it installed. Another way to test it is to install Twobile and try to run it – if the program complains that you do not have a file or that you have the wrong version, download the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and install it, then try again.
- Ensure your device is “Application Unlocked.” This error is evident when trying to install Twobile and it complains that you do not have the permission to install Twobile, or when it gives you an error that installation failed without even having begun. If this is the case, then visit this site, download the SDA Application Unlocker and running it as specified on the site (note: though it talks about the Blackjack 2, this program should work on all Windows Mobile devices, but I can not vouch for it).
- If the above doesn’t work, try downloading the CAB file directly on a computer, transfer the file to your device, and try to install it from there. Although the CAB file should be downloadable directly from your device, some devices/browsers/ISPs/configurations can corrupt the download, rendering it unable to install. I have seen a large cross-section of devices run Twobile, so I do not believe that it would be a device issue, but anything is possible.
If you are having problems installing or running Twobile, please be sure to try each of the above solutions. If all else fails, please visit our Google Groups page and leave a message and I can try to help you out (note: Google Groups has recently been inundated with spam lately. I am working through what I can to clean it up but can not give any guarantee that it will be free from spam).
